How about these elections? Covid-19? Riots? I could go on. Crazy times to say the least!

2 Chron 7:14 if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

Probably you've heard this verse mentioned a good bit here recently. I have. Certainly, it is one of great value if not exceedingly so in this given season. But are we really doing it? And who's sin is it anyway? How should we approach this verse given our current plight?

Daniel lives in Babylon and serves under a corrupt leader. He cries out on behalf of Israel and the sinful condition that led to her captivity. Daniel prays for his nation. Here's the catch…

At this point in time, Israel is the "My people" who are spoken of in 2 Chron 7:14. In essence, Israel was the 'light of the world' who were to humble themselves. But something happened between then and now. Divorce. Israel, by and large, declared that they did not care to hold that position any longer. And so God granted them that request. To be continued…

Today, much of our meeting/discussion around the 2 Chron 7:14 concept deal heavily in what our NATION is doing wrong. Sounds like Daniel right? Not so fast. Daniel was praying for his nation because Israel was the "people who are called by My name". After the divorce, God decided He would raise up a NEW people who would fill the gap while Israel was wayward. These new people would not be a NATION, but rather a body of believers consisting of individuals from EVERY nation. And yet NO nation, in itself, in this time, would be constituted as "My people". Welcome, the Church.

Change anything? I think so. God is calling for the Church to repent. Unfortunately, many of us don't see our sin because we're too busy railing about the sins of the world. But God isn't talking to the world through 2 Chron 7:14. He's not even talking to our nation. He's talking to us. And while I'm not opposed to praying for our nation, I'm simply suggesting THIS isn't that.
